Aisha Buhari Cup: South Africa humble Nigeria 4-2 to emerge champions

Banyana Banyana of South Africa walloped the Super Falcons of Nigeria 4 – 2 in the final to emerge the best team in the maiden edition of the Aisha Buhari invitational tournament at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos on Tuesday.

The Desiree Ellis tutored side were three goals up at halftime through defensive errors from Nigeria.

Despite Nigeria parading stars like Asisat Oshoala, the hosts were humbled by Banyana Banyana who took an early lead through Michelle Anozie own goal before Jane Refiloe double the lead from the Spot.

South Africa increased the tally few minutes into the end of the first half as Gabriela Salgado scrap through Nigeria defenders to head home third goal.

The Super Falcons found their way into the game in the second half with two quick goals from Rivers Angels' Vivian Ikechukwu but South Africa scored the fourth from the spot through Mamello Makhabane to seal the victory.

Victory meant South Africa emerged the best team of the tournament, and a statement was made that Nigeria should henceforth put her fate in the hands of young and glory-hungry players who still have much to look forward to.

South Africa won the tournament with two wins against Ghana and Nigeria while Morocco finished second with 4 points from two games.

South Africa scored seven goals and conceded two throughout the tournament.
