Matchdayay 6 games of the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season held in six centers with Sunshine Stars and Nasarawa United grabbing wins away from home and barren results in Enugu and Okigwe.
Nasarawa United moved to top spot after Sunday’s action with a 2-1 win away at Warri Wolves at the Ozoro Township Stadium.
Wolves taught they had control of the fixture when Uche Ihuarulam headed them in front on 21 minutes, but the visitors had better ideas after the break as goals from Silas Nwankwo and Chinedu Ohanachom aided them to their second win away from home in three attempts. The result means Wolves slip to within two places off the relegation zone.
At the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Akure side Sunshine Stars shone brightly with a win away to Dakkada FC of Uyo. Sadeeq Yusuf had given Ogunbote’s men an early lead inside 12 minutes, before the home side drew level through Jesam Edet on 61 minutes. Yusuf would secure his brace six minutes after to propel his side to 6th place on the log.
In Owerri, second half goals from Nnoshiri Samuel (52’) and Pascal Eze (80’) ensured Heartland escaped an early scare at home to visiting Akwa United FC of Uyo. League all time record scorer; Mfon Udoh had earlier put the Promise Keepers in front after 34 minutes of what turned out a tightly contested affair at the Dan Anyam Stadium.
Kwara United needed a late header from substitute, Olawale Farayola to earn maximum points at home to FC IfeanyiUbah in Illorin, while Abia Warriors failed to make it count in their new home turf, as they were held to a barren draw by MFM FC of Lagos in Okigwe.
Elsewhere, 10 men Lobi Stars shared the spoils with Rangers International at the Cathedral in Enugu. Saturday’s match between Katsina United and Plateau United ended in a similar fashion.
