Bosso: Odey deserves Super Eagles call-up

By Taofeek Babalola

El Kanemi Warriors technical adviser, Ladan Bosso has urged the national team coach,  Gernot Rohr to give Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries (MFM) striker, Stephen Odey a chance in the Super Eagles.

Odey is the leading top scorer in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with twelve goals to his credit in the 15-week-old league.

Bosso told Sportinglens.blogspot.com that he was surprised that the young star was not invited for the super Eagles friendly matches against Senegal and Burkina Faso.

“Stephen Odey is doing well in the NPFL now and he is not being considered for ordinary friendly matches (against Senegal and Burkina Faso). His non-invitation to the Super Eagles is surprising to me. If Odey were to be a foreign player he would have been a hot-cake by now. If good players in the league are not being considered for the national team, so how do you want to encourage such players?,” Bosso said to Sportinglens.blogspot.com.

“The same thing happened when I was Wikki Tourists coach, Babale Ibrahim was the highest goals scorer in the league for three seasons (2005, 2006, 2007) consecutively and nobody deemed it fit to invite him to the national team until he got injured when he moved to Sunshine Stars. As a highest goal scorer, he never scored goals from the penalty unlike what we are witnessing these days when 75 per cent of the goals scored by our top scorer were through penalty. The guy was just allowed to be wasted away without making use of his talent. I think there must be a change of attitude towards local players by the national team handlers.”
