Sagamu's Queen Wants More Women In Golf After Victories

Queen Hassana Adams of Lafarge Elephant Golf Club Sagamu in Ogun State relishing her recent victories in golfing events has charged women to be actively involved in the game of golf.

The Acting Coordinator, National Youths Network Working on HIV/AIDS, Lagos State Chapter worried about the dearth of women playing golf actively at her Sagamu club, believes it is a profitable game open to all irrespective of the sociopolitical and economic status in the society.

Commenting on some of the benefits of playing golf after her victory in a chat with SOKOnnect at the just concluded "Sign Out & Inaugural Golf Tournament" which held at the Sagamu Club she opined, "Golf is a game I will always recommend for my fellow women to be part of as a sport because of the benefits."

"But I'm worried that there are not enough women playing golf at my club here in Sagamu to be specific, Nigeria in general; a lot of the women have negative impression about the game and it's not correct.

"As a golfer, you're sure of good health always, physically and mentally - longevity as well; golf disciplines you to be of good behavior, to be upright  - not to be a cheat; one can also go further to becoming a professional player, which is money spinning,l etc," she enumerated.

Adams who also was the initiator of "1st HIV/AIDS Amateur Golf Tournament" and "Loving Golf Kitty" however, emphasised the need for golf clubs Ladies Section to improve on grassroot development for girls through schools to catch them young."

Recall that Adams playing off handicap 26, won the Gross Ladies Category at the Sign Out & Inaugural Golf Tournament with 97 gross, 71 Nett; she was also the winner of "Michael Owolabi Ibigbami @50" birthday event earlier in April.

Invariably, the second position in the Ladies Gross Category went to Amaka Robert, handicap 31, who shot 103 gross, 72 Nett and third position was Latifat Mohammed, handicap 11, 87 gross, 76 Nett.

In the Men's Gross Category, prolific golfer, with 0 handicap, Uche Eze, "stole" the show with 71 gross; another 0 handicap player, Owolabi Olajide, was second on 74 gross, while Lasisi H, handicap 6 ended third on 77 gross, just as there were other winners on the day.

The Kogi State lady-golfer, born and raised in Sagamu concluding charged the newly inaugurated Club Captain,Engr. Adedeji Esan, who took over from Engr. Lanre Opakunle, to build on the existing structure for the development of the golf for the benefit of the people of Sagamu and environs.
