Mountain of
Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) FC striker Chijioke Akuneto has dedicated
his goal against Enyimba FC in the matchday 13 of the Nigeria Professional
Football League (NPFL) clash on Sunday to his late daughter, Sportinglens.blogspot.com reports.
Akuneto's
56th minute strike earned MFM a point against People’s Elephants in the match
played at the Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium.
According to
the information made available to the press by the club’s Media Director,
Olawale Quadri, the baby girl died a day before her naming ceremony (Saturday)
and Akuneto still featured for MFM FC on Sunday, scoring the only goal that
gave the Olukoya Boys a valuable point against the NPFL Giants. His 4th goal
this season.
“What you don't know about Akuneto,” Quadri
stated via his twitter account @walequadri.
He added:
“His baby girl died a day before her naming ceremony i.e on Saturday. Akuneto
scored his 4th this season vs Enyimba on Sunday and rescued a point for MFM. He
dedicated the goal to his late daughter. Akuneto is more than a Footballer.”
Meanwhile,
Akuneto told newsmen in an interview after the match that he is not happy with
the result despite scoring his fourth goal of the season and his first NPFL
goal against the People's Elephant.
"I am
not happy with the result. I think we should have done better than this. I like
the fact that I scored but I would have preferred our team to win the match
than me scoring.
"Dropping
a point at home is not what we planned for but you know sometimes in football
results will not just go your way but I believe we will bounce back," he
said.
The Olukoya
Boys maintain top spot in Group A of the NPFL standings with 23 points from 13
league games while Enyimba still occupy the second position with 20 points from
13 matches.
