The executive of Akwa-Ibom State Football Association has paid a courtesy visit to the camp of the ‘Flying Antelopes’ in Uyo as a show of support for the team ahead of their two-legged first preliminary round ties against Comoros Island side, U.S Zilimadjou fixed for Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.
The visit
was led by the chairman of Akwa-Ibom State F.A, Samuel Umoh, and accompanied by
the scribe of the football house, Kufre Etukudoh, and board member, Tony
Kelvin, who stated that they came for the visit to encourage the team ahead of
the continental encounter.
“We are here
on behalf of the football family of Akwa-Ibom state to encourage you to
represent the country well in the CAF Champions League. Remember you are the
champions of Nigeria and we want you to play like the true champions when you
engage your opponent from the Comoros Islands. Count on our full support in the
matches you will be playing here. Uyo is your home and you will not lack home
support. Remember, while playing on the pitch, you are not only playing
Rangers, Enugu state, yourselves, or your family but you are playing for the
entire country, Nigeria. So, we urge you to be good ambassadors and wish you
good luck as we wait to celebrate after the two matches” said the young
Akwa-Ibom state F.A chairman.
Reacting,
the captain of the ‘Flying Antelopes’, Ugwueze Chinemerem, thanked the ‘August
Visitors for their good wishes and support while promising that he and his
teammates understand the big task ahead of them and promised not to disappoint
the millions of football followers in the country by earning a berth in the
next round of the premier club competition on the continent.
Packs of
bottled drinking water were later presented to the team by the Akwa-Ibom
Football Association officials.
