Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers have dropped four places in the latest FIBA rankings released on Thursday as they tumbled from 39th to 42nd position in the ranking after they polled 299.7 points during the month under review.
Nigeria
currently occupies the sixth position in Africa below the likes of South Sudan,
Coted’Ivoire, Angola, Tunisia.
In March
2021, the global governing body FIBA ranked Nigeria as Africa’s top men’s
basketball nation.
After the
2016 Olympic Men’s Basketball Tournament in Rio, Nigeria was ranked 16th in the
FIBA World Rankings, making them the top climber in FIBA rankings from 2015.
The United
States of America retained the number one spot after winning the gold medal at
the just-concluded Olympics in Paris.
They polled
838.8 points followed by Serbia with 758.9 points, Germany, France and Canada
make up the top five.
The D’Tigers
lost all their three matches against Libya, Uganda and Cape Verde in the
Afrobasket qualifiers in February.
