Newly promoted side, Ikorodu United forced Abia
warriors to a 1-1 draw in the match day one of the Nigeria Professional
Football league (NPFL) at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos on Sunday.
Ndifreke Effiong shot the visitors into the lead in
the 31st minute to end the first half 1-0 in favour of the Umuahia-based side.
But Ikorodu United came back very strong in the
second half and their efforts were rewarded when Agbane Candy pulled the Oga Boys level in the 60th minute.
The goal gave the Lagos Boys more confidence as they
outplayed the coach kenedy Boboye tutored side.
The winning goal, however, could not be scored by
Ikorodu United despite dominating the second half.
Ikorodu United defenders Fransis Nnedun and Kabiru
Moshood shut out Africa Championship (CHAN) four goals star, Chisom Chikatara out
of the game and he could be hardly noticed during the encounter before he was substituted
in the 63rd minute.
The Lagos fans who were at the Stadium in large
numbers also played a huge role as they chanted and sang, until the end of the
game.
The game also witnessed the attendance of dignitaries
which include ex-internationals.
