After his extra-time winner against Liverpool took West Ham United through to the fifth round of the FA Cup, Italian defender Angelo Ogbonna is now a part of Hammers history and he revealed that he is a happy man in London.
However, the former Torino man did confess that it was difficult to integrate with the dressing room when he first moved to the capital but soon got to grips with the Cockney accent.
“It’s really, really hard,” admitted Ogbonna in an interview with The Sun. “When I came to London and was in the dressing room, I tried to speak English and turned and heard Mark Noble and James Tomkins talking and thought what language are they speaking?
“Nobes came to me and said ‘No, Angelo, if you want to learn English, don’t listen to mine! It’s different’. But actually I think Cockney is a really good base to learn proper English.”
With the Premier League club facing Blackburn Rovers on Sunday afternoon, the 27-year-old is fully focused on winning the FA Cup in the club’s final season at Upton Park.
“The goal I scored against Liverpool was a special moment. The FA Cup is such an important competition here and across the world,” added Ogbonna. “We want to win it for the fans with this being the last season at Upton Park.
“I watch a lot of Championship games and they want to fight hard, but I’m ready, we are ready and we won’t underestimate Blackburn.”
