Super Eagles beat Iceland to keep World Cup hopes alive

Nigeria moved up to second in Group D and helped Argentina out by beating Iceland 2-0 on Friday. Leicester striker Ahmed Musa scored both goals as Super Eagles had to avoid defeat in Volgograd to keep their World Cup hopes alive.

Musa broke deadlock early in the second half with a fine finish following a move on the counter-attack.The former Kano Pillars striker doubled Nigeria's lead after bursting into box and taking the ball round the goalkeeper.

Iceland's Gylfi Sigurdsson blazed over a penalty kick late on after it was given through consultation with VAR.

The result has set up an exciting end to the group as Nigeria are on three points with Iceland and Argentina both on one.
