Enyimba
Football Club bounced from midweek lose to edge Adamawa United 2-0 in a Nigeria
Professional Football League fixture at the Enyimba Stadium this evening.
The People's
Elephants suffered a 0-1 loss against Sunshine Stars in Akure on Sunday but did
not break sweat against Adamawa as Victor Mbaoma's first half brace sealed
three points for Usman Abd'Allah's men.
Reuben Bala
and Samson Obi came close to breaking a crowded Adamawa backline during the
opening exchanges, but it was Mbaoma that eventually got the opener in the
twentieth minute with a basic tap after Obi's effort was spilled by Bulus
Pwadadi.
Mbaoma
doubled the tally seven minutes later, finishing from four yards to punish the
visitors failure to decisively clear Dimgba's cross.
Bala came
close to Enyimba's third moments later, but the forward's strike struck the
upright before Theophilus Afelokhai denied Felix Kanen to bring the half to a
gripping end.
Injured left
back, Daniel Darkwah was replaced by Stanley Okorom at the beginning of a
second period that featured lots of unconverted chances.
Bala failed
to finish off a brilliant solo run, before Olisema tripped over after beating
the keeper.
With fifteen
minutes left, the impressive Pwadadi produced a top notch save to stop Mbaoma's
header and what would have been the season's first hat trick.
Now with ten
points Usman Abd'Allah's side are third on the NPFL table, a tally only
bettered by leaders Plateau United.
Up next for
People's Elephant is a trip to Morocco to face Hassania Agadir in the CAF
Confederation Cup.
