Irate Abia Warriors fans
went berserk and descended on Katsina United video camera man Bishir Musa
during matchday 17 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) clash on
Sunday in Umuahia.
Katsina United came from a
goal down to pick a point in Umuahia through a penalty by Agboola Joshua on 39
minutes to cancel out a 16th minute strike by Obi Samson.
The outcome did not go
down well with the home fans, who invaded the pitch immediately the final
whistle was blown to attack the centre referee and his assistants.
An official of Katsina
United told SportingLife.ng that the fans beat up Musa who had earlier been
warned not to video the game especially towards the end.
“They prevented him from
filming the match towards the end and also removed both the memory card and the
battery of the camera. He was badly beaten and he suffered a broken head in the
process. We had to rush him to the Federal Medical Center Umuahia where he is
receiving proper treatment,” an official said to SportingLife.ng.
Katsina United are making
arrangements to petition the League Management Company (LMC) over the attack.
