Yobe Desert
Stars Head Coach Ngozi Elechi has been sacked due to the team's poor run of
form, Sportinglens.blogspot.com reports.
The club's
media officer, Jibo Zakari, who confirmed the development to SportingLife, said
the management took the decision after their Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Go Round FC
in the matchday 12 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) encounter
in Port-Harcourt.
According to
Jibo, the management led by its General Manager, Abdurahaman Ago fired the
coach to save the club from total collapse.
Elechi, who joined the team at the beginning of the
season, was relieved of his job after failing to meet up with the three-match
ultimatum given to him by the management.
SportingLife
reports that the coach lost all the three matches he played after the
ultimatum.
The trouble
started when Yobe Desert Stars lost 2-1 to Kada City in Kaduna followed by a
scandalous 3-1 home loss to Abia Warriors and another 1-0 defeat suffered in
the game against Go Round FC on Sunday.
In a chat
with Sportinglens.blogspot.com, Zakari said Elechi's sack is inevitable based on the team's
poor performance.
He stressed
that the management will meet later to decide on the appointment of a new
coach.
"After
our game against Go Round on Sunday, our GM called to inform us that Coach
Ngosi Elechi has been asked to go. As you are aware that he was given
three-match ultimatum but he failed to meet up. We started the second round on
Sunday and urgent thing needed to be done to save the situation. As it is now,
no decision has been taking on who to take over from him. The team performed
below expectation under him. He was given the chance to prove himself but he
couldn't do anything that's why the management tell to go, " Zakari told
Sportinglens.blogspot.com.
