Ejike Uzoenyi trains with Rangers

If information coming from the camp of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Champions, Rangers International FC of Enugu is anything to go by, former Super Eagles winger Ejike Uzoenyi may return to the team for the next soccer season,Sportinglens.blogspot.com understands.

Uzoenyi, who left Flying Antelopes for Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa following his scintillating performances at the 2014 CHAN tournament in South Africa, was sighted at the team’s camp in Enugu training with squad on resumption from Christmas Break on Thursday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

Sportinglens.blogspot.com gathered that Uzoenyi has been in Enugu with his family since he returned to Nigeria from South Africa before Xmas break.

A source from the team’s camp said the club will give him offers if he is ready to play for the club again.

“What we are hearing is that his contract with Mamelodi Sundowns has expired and we want to know the real situation of things before we make any definite statement on him. He trained with the team on Thursday and we are satisfied with his performances. He is still a good player and his experience will be useful for the team. We are yet to finalize anything with him and as soon as we get clearer picture of the whole situation we will make it open to the public,” a club top official told Sportinglens.blogspot.com.

It’s understood that the board steering committee, headed by Acting Board Chairman Steve Oruuo has almost conclude negotiations with both old and new players including Etim Mathew whose contract still runs till 2019.

Apart from Uzoenyi, other notable players participated in Thursday’s training session include Ugwu Uwadiegwu, Obinna Nwobodo and Okey Odita.

Meanwhile, preparations are in top gear for the planned Rangers playing tour to Benin Republic, Togo Ghana and Cote D’lvoive by the first week of January, 2016.

The Acting Board Chairman, Barrister Steve Oruruo said the board is in support of the tour, which according to him, will further put the team in proper shape before the commencement of the NPFL slated for 15th January, 2017 and the CAF Champion League in February, 2017.

Orurno further asserted that the tour will further compliment the gains achieved by the team in the last pre- season camping in Benin City.
