Lobi Stars
Football Club of Makurdi have emerged champions of the 4th edition of Gold Cup
Pre-season tournament after defeating Mountain of Fire Miracles and Ministries
FC of Lagos 4-3 on penalties. The full time ended at 0-0 even as both teams
tried to outwit themselves while trying to take their chances during the game.
The Olukoya Boys had the better part of the
game as they dominated play in the first half but missed several scoring
chances.
MFM FC’s
Onuwa was a star man of the game as his dribbling skills were a delight to watch
by the close to 2000 fans that came to the stadium for the epic final.
In the
second half, Lobi Stars dominated play and should have won it but the Olukoya Boys defenders were solid in keeping
their lines.
MFM thought
they had got a last minute penalty only for the match official to rule the
infringement as a dive. Both teams then had to decide their fate via penalties
after the referee end of the game with score line at 0-0.
The Olukoya
Boys twice fluffed their chance of claiming the trophy after Lobi Stars had
missed their's but Isah Akor who should have won it for his team scoring their
6th spot kick made a mess of it.
The end
result saw the Food Basket outfit winning the match 4-3 on penalty, then
claiming the trophy of the 4th edition of the championship.
However, MFM
duo of Sikiru Olatunbosun and Onuwa Chukwuka, won the tourney’s Top scorer and
Most Valuable Player awards respectively.
