Judo Championship: Nsirim charges judokas

President of the Nigeria Judo federation, Prince Timothy Nsirim has admonished judokas at the 2017 loveth Howell National open Judo championship to show the character of a champion on the mat and cultivate new friendship.

Prince Nsirim stated this during the opening ceremony of the three-day championship at the indoor hall of the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, Benin City, Edo State. He also thanked the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki for creating an enabling environment for the championship to thrive in the state.

The objective of the Nigeria Judo federation is to create a channel to make Judo the most popular combat sport in the country.

"This championship is organised as part of many activities lined up by the NJF board in the year to select and prepare athletes that will represent Nigeria in approved international meet next year." Nsirim said.

“Let me use this opportunity to thank the Edo State government led by Godwin Obaseki for supporting this championship financially and creating an enabling environment for the three day event.”

Facilitator of the championship and former national Judo champion, Loveth Howell said the championship is her own way of developing Judo talents in the country.

"This championship is not only aimed at discouraging youth restiveness in the state and country but also to create the platform for judokas to be global champions tomorrow,” Howell concluded.
