Akwa United
technical adviser, Abdul Maikaba is concerned about his strikers' scoring
ability ahead of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season, Sportinglens.blogspot.com reports.
The strikers struggled to find the back of the net during their
pre-season preparation, the development which is not going down well with their
coach.
The former
Wikki Tourists managers told Sportinglens.blogspot.com that he has no intention of bringing
in a new striker before the league kicks off on January 14 but he will work on
their scoring skill before their league opener against Enugu Rangers Int’l.
“The team
will resume on January 3 and we will move straight to closed camping to get
ourselves well prepared before the commencement of the league. We don’t have
more problems in the team at the moment but my only worry is our strikers. They
have not been impressive in their scoring abilities,” Maikaba said to Sportinglens.blogspot.com.
He added:
“Our pre-season participation in Kano helped us to notice these shortcomings
and we will try and correct it before our first league game. We played matches
during pre-season completions but we scored limited goals which are not too
good for us. There is no plan to bring in new striker. What I noticed is that
some of them have not used to our style of play but I believe with the
remaining days we will correct this and we will have good outing in the league
and the continent.”
