Remo Stars cruised
to their second win of the season with a comprehensive 2-0 win against El
Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri in the Match-Day 5 of the Nigeria Professional
football league (NPFL) played at the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu,
Ogun State on Sunday.
The newly
promoted side had only previously defeated Abia Warriors at home but
heartbreaking losses to Plateau United, Nasarawa United and Gombe United
ensured that the Sagamu based side languished 19th on the log before
yesterday’s tie.
The Sky Blue
showed their intentions of making an impact in the NPFL with an early goal against
El Kanemi as Onuoha Chukwujekwu latched onto a pass to put the ball past the
goalkeeper inside two minutes.
Oche Salefu
had a glorious chance of putting the home side two goals up but he wasted a
glorious opportunity from inside the box as the first half ended 1-0.
In the
second half, Salefu atoned for his bizarre miss with a well-taken free kick to
double the lead for the home side. El Kanemi pressed to get back into the game
but the home side held on for the vital three points.
It would be
a disappointing loss to the El Kanemi Warriors after all the management’s effort
to convey the team to the match through a Medview Airline.
The 16
players and 12 officials arrived in Lagos on Friday and traveled to Sagamu on
Saturday morning.
