Super Falcons of Nigeria delivered an impressive performance to earn a morale-boosting 3-0 win over New Zealand in an international friendly game on Tuesday in Turkey ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Sportinglens.blogspot.com reports.
Goals from veteran
skipper Onome Ebi, Jennifer Echegini and Desire Oparanozie ensured victory over
World Cup co-hosts, their third consecutive victories on the road.
The Super
Falcons had secured victories over Costa Rica and Haiti before their win over
New Zealand in Tuesday’s clash at the Mardan Sports Complex in Antalya, as from
4pm Turkish time (2pm Nigeria time).
Ebi shot
Nigeria into the lead when she scored the first goal. It was the 39-year-old’s
first goal for Nigeria in four years and her third in the green and white
jersey.
Jennifer
Echegini doubled Nigeria’s lead to score her first-ever Falcons goal, three
minutes into the second half from an outstanding cross from Michelle Alozie.
However,
Falcons nailed the coffin of their opponents when Desire Oparanozie scored her
first goal in four years for Nigeria and Falcons third in the game in the
thrilling friendly encounter on Tuesday afternoon.
The
nine-time African champions defeated Haiti 2-0 in Antalya on Thursday following the
1-0 defeat of Costa Rica at the Revelation Cup Tournament in Mexico.
