Frank Lampard has been seen leading Chelsea training for the first time since returning to the club as caretaker boss, with the majority of players looking pleased to see the returning manager.
The 44-year-old, who previously led the Blues to fourth place
in the league and an FA Cup final during his last spell as manager between 2019
and 2021, was appointed until the end of the season on Thursday.
He has been pictured smiling with familiar faces such as
Christian Pulisic, while also speaking to new players such as struggling winger
Mykhailo Mudryk, who appeared to be in deep conversation with the returning
legend.
Fabrizio Romano reported that Everton wanted to sign Mudryk
during Lampard's time there but were priced out of the race.
Mason Mount, an old favourite of the new boss', looked
pleased to see him back, as did N'Golo Kante after his recent return from
injury.
Raheem Sterling allowed himself a smile during the session,
and will remember the manager well after playing alongside him at the 2014
World Cup
Enzo Fernandez gave little away but has been among the best
performing players in a struggling Chelsea side since his British record
signing in January.
Lampard's appointment comes after Graham Potter parted ways
with the club on Sunday following a disappointing seven months in charge.
The former Brighton boss leaves the club 11th in the league
and close to the relegation zone than the top four, although they have reached
a Champions League quarter final.
Speaking to the media moments after Chelsea officially
confirmed his return, Lampard said: "[It was] a surprise in terms of you never
know the decision the club are going to make.
"I've been particularly enjoying my time at home. When you
get time at home you can throw yourself into your family.
"But it was easy decision for me, this is my club. I'm also a
very practical person.
"I've been on a different path since I left Chelsea but to
come back when I've been asked and I come back with a belief that I can help
until the end of the season.
"I'm delighted to get the opportunity and I'm thankful. I've
a good understanding of the squad, the training ground, the stadium and the
fans and I'll do my best."
Asked if he ever saw himself in the Chelsea hotseat again,
the club's all-time leading scorer added: "I didn't think I'd never be in this
seat. I understand the club and the game."
