Kano State chapter
of the Sports Writer Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has awarded first Kano indigene
FIFA-badge referee, Bashir Salisu with most outstanding referee award in the
month of August.
Bashir Salisu
was born in Fagge Quarters, Kano City in 1990 and joined Nigerian referee in
2007 as RIT to grade 3, grade 2, grade 1 and got FIFA badge this year.
The award
was presented to him at the SWAN monthly interactive session at the Porto Golf
Resort in Minjibir Local Government Area, Kano State.
During the
session Chairman Kano State Referees Council, Nasiru Ibrahim presented a lecture
on FIFA new rules to over one hundred Club Owners, Coaches and players from
various football clubs in the state that attended the gathering.
The chairman
Kano SWAN chapter, Rilwanu Idris Malikawa said that Salisu was picked for the award
based on his performances in fair officiating in the ongoing Nigeria Professional
Football League (NPFL), including the match between Wikki Tourists and Rangers
International which ended 0-0 in Bauchi without any complain from both teams.
Malikawa
said the Association orgnised the session in order to educate and enlighten the
football stakeholders in the state with new FIFA rules of the game.
Presenting the award to Salisu, the former chairman of the Nigeria Football Association
(NFA) and now chairman Kano State Sports Commission, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima commended Kano SWAN for organising
the session which he described as timely.
Galadima
then congratulated Salisu, urging him to consider the award as a challenge to
him in discharging his duties.
