Nanen Imenger has not given up hope of his team finishing in
the top two in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) table this
season after helping Lobi Stars to a 1-0 win over Enyimba FC in the week 34 clash
on Sunday.
Imenger’s 4th
minute goal was enough for the hosts to secure a maximum three points against
Aba Elephants who is also a title contender, scoring his seventh goal of the
season.
In a chat
with Sportinglens.blogspot.com, Nanen acknowledged that the game was tough but he insists that
the better side won the match.
“It was a
very good contest and a tough game for two teams but we thanked God that we
came out victorious in the match. We knew it would be a close contest and we
prepared for it. They were good side but
we deserved to win the match. We played 2-2 draw in the first leg despite the
fact that center referee disallowed two out of our four goals in the match. But
today we scored early goal and they were unable to do anything about it,”
Imenger told Sportinglens.blogspot.com.
He added: “We
are getting everything right in our team now which is very good for us at this
crucial stage. We got a draw against another title contender on Wednesday in
Bauchi and today we beat Enyimba. If we can continue with this tempo I am very
optimistic that we can finish the season in top two and we will pick a continental
ticket.”
