Maikaba won’t give up on continental ticket

Wikki Tourists technical adviser Abdul Maikaba believes his side are still in the race to pick one of the continental tickets despite their matchday 37 1-0 loss to Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) at the the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan on Sunday.

With one match to end the 2015/2016 season, Rangers International are already favoured to win the league and pick a Champions League ticket while Rivers United, FC Ifeanyi Ubah and Wikki Tourists will battle for the remaining two tickets.

The gaps between Wikki Tourists, Rivers United and FC Ifeanyiubah are now 3 and 2, the last game will determine the teams that will pick the remaining two tickets.

Rivers United and FC Ifeanyi Ubah are playing against Akwa United and MFM in Uyo and Lagos respectively while Wikki Tourists host Sunshine Stars in Bauchi.

But speaking with Sportinglens.blogspot.com, Maikaba refused to throw in the towel.

“We tried our best to get three points in the game against 3SC but the match officials didn’t allow a level playing field, especially the center referee. He didn’t allow us to play our game. We were determined to win the game but the match officials frustrated our boys. All the same we still have a chance to pick a continental ticket. We will try and win our last game and pray that other matches ended in our favour too,” Maikaba said to Sportinglens.blogspot.com.

“The title is not within our reach now because Rangers are already with 60 points. So I want my boys to put what happened in the game against 3SC behind them and focus more on the game against Sunshine Stars. They should not be discouraged because they have put in more into this race and they have to fight till the end and I have a strong belief that we can get it.”
