can reveal that the Match Commissioner assigned for today’s rescheduled
matchday 31 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match between Enyimba and
Wikki Tourists, Mr Richard Jideaka was last night attacked by armed robbers on
his way to Port-Harcourt from Abuja.
It was
gathered that no serious injury was inflicted on him but a lot of important
documents and valuables were taken away from him including his Match Commissioner's
Blazer.
Information reaching
us from Port-Harcourt has it that Mr Jideaka still presided over the pre-match
meeting, but the meeting which was initially fixed for 9am this morning was
delayed till 9:55am to give him more time to get over the incident.
With the
recent situation, Mr Jideaka may not don his Match Commissioner Blazer during
the match this afternoon.
“We thank
God for saving his life. He is already in Port-Harcourt for the match. No serious
injury but he was shocked by the attack. He lost some of his belongings including
his Match Commissioner Blazer. Infact, he presided over the pre-match meeting this
morning but he told us that if we didn’t see him with his Match Commissioner
Blazer we should not complain and it is because of what happened to him. He is psychologically
okay and ready for the match,” a source told Sportinglens.blogspot.com.
Meanwhile,
Wikki Tourists FC through its media officer, Nasiru Abdullahi Kobi, have expressed
their sympathy for Mr Jideaka, praying to God Almighty for his safety always.
“We thanked
God that he his hale and healthy. We
thank God that we are not mourning this morning in the Nigeria football family.
On behalf of Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi we prayed that God will continue to
grant him a journey mercy,” Kobi said.
