Super Eagles captain John
Obi Mikel has been described as one of the best footballers to follow on
Instagram and twitter. The Chelsea of England
midfielder, who opened his Twitter account on August 4, has quickly become
someone whose tweets can’t be scrolled past.
Mikel, who is currently on
duty for Nigeria ahead of this weekend’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers
against Tanzania, caused a chuckle when Paul Pogba signed for Manchester United
by posting a video of his cheeky nutmeg on the 23-year-old during a match
between Nigeria and France.
That tweet received more
than 50,000 retweets and close to 50,000 likes.
And his latest gag on Chelsea new signing David Luiz is to get close to
that number.
Chelsea announced the
signing of Luiz on Wednesday in what was the most unexpected signing of the
summer.
The Brazilian received a
welcome from Mikel on Twitter, as is the one thing in football these days. But
it wasn’t the generic, “welcome, can’t wait to play with you,” message that
players usually send.
Instead, the Chelsea
stalwart used his opportunity to greet Luiz to troll another teammate, Diego
Costa.
“Welcome home
@DavidLuiz_4! Remember to be nice to Diego,” was the message, along with a
picture of the trio during a Chelsea match against Atletico Madrid.
This was when Costa was
still playing for Atletico Mikel used a picture of the Spaniard looking crestfallen,
presumably having just missed an opportunity to score.
Mikel will have some
explaining to do when Chelsea’s players return from international duty.
“Who knew that John Obi
Mikel was a comedian, as well as a professional footballer?” someone asked on
social media.
