League
Management Company officials – Chairman, Shehu Dikko and Chief Operating
Officer Salisu Abubakar – have been served with a contempt of court charge for
deliberately disobeying the order of a court of a competent jurisdiction
ordering the stoppage of the Nigeria Premier Football League, until Giwa FC of
Jos is reinstated.
It could be
recalled that a High Court in Jos had last week ordered the LMC to either
reinstate Giwa FC in the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL)
and continue with the appeal or suspend the league and wait for the outcome of
their appeal, which they flaunted.
Receiving
the Order, the League Management company had issued a statement declaring that
they would not obey the Order, and went ahead with the league on the premise
that they had filed for a ‘Stay of Execution’ and had appealed the matter.
The contempt
letter served to LMC on the 6th of September, 2016, read; “In the High court of
Justice of Plateau state holding at Jos, in the matter of an application by
Mustafa Abubaka for himself and on behalf of Giwa Football Club limited, the
applicant had sued the League management company limited, the Nigeria Football
Federation and or the Nigeria football Association, through the Plateau football
club limited for himself and on behalf of all the other nineteen football club
in the Nigeria professional football league except Giwa football club, Jos
“To Shehu
Dikko, chairman, League Management Company Limited, Salihu Abubakar, chief
operating officer, League Management Company limited, Form 48 Notice of
consequences of disobedience to order of court in pursuant to order 1s rule 13
of the judgement, enforcement rules. Take notice that unless you obey the
directions contained in this orders (hereto) you will be guilty of contempt of
court and will be liable to be committed to prison,” the statement read.
The
plaintiff, Mustafa Abubakar, who felt undone by the action of the LMC, seeing
it as a total violation of the order of the court, went back to report and, the
court in response to his complain, issued a contempt charge on the LMC
officials.
