Sunshine
Stars Technical Adviser, Austin Eguavoen has admitted that his team’s victory
over Enyimba FC of Aba eased the burden on him and his players.
Ajibola
Otegbeye's 68th minute goal from the spot earned Sunshine Stars FC a hard
fought victory against Enyimba FC at the Ondo State Sports Complex Akure in a
week 21 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) clash.
The Owena
Waves suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Lobi Stars in their previous game but
the former Super Eagles handler believes the win will bring confidence back
into the team.
The game was played before empty stands as
directed by the League Management Company (LMC) following Akure's fans problem
in the last home game, but Eguavoen pleaded with LMC to pardon their fans and
allow them access to the stadium.
Eguavoen
said: "Yes, the victory came with some relief. Enyimba are a very strong
side and both teams can give more than what we saw here today. We
miss the fans, playing without them is not ideal for us and we are appealing to
the LMC to temper justice with mercy, and I think the fans must have learnt
their mistakes now. We miss them and we want them back."
Cerezo as
Eguavoen IS fondly called, said his side will prepare well for their next game
against Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan on Sunday.
"On the
next game against 3SC, we know Ibadan fans love good football and we are going
there to do our thing as well, which is to play good football," he said.
