Kano Pillars are Gold Cup champions


Kano Pillars have emerged the champions of this year's prestigious pre-season tournament, Gold Cup, after defeating the defending Champions, Lobi Stars of Makurdi 1-0 at the Kwara State Stadium in Ilorin on Friday, Sportinglens.blogspot.com reports.


Rabiu Ali's 33rd minute's effort was all Sai Masu Gida needed to claim the title for the second time in three years.

It was a sweet revenge for the coach Ibrahim Musa tutored side as Lobi Stars denied Pillars the chance of winning the title last year when they stopped the northern club side in the semi-final.

The Pyramid City side went home with a giant trophy and the sum of three hundred thousand naira for winning the title.

Kano Pillars played six matches, winning four games and drew two to claim the title.


At the end of the tournament, Kano Pillars legend, Rabiu Ali emerged the Most Valuable Players, John Lawrence of Lobi Stars named Best goalkeeper while Bartholomew Daniel of FC Ebedei won the Top scorer award.
