Nigerian sensation Oluwatobi Amusan raced to first place in the women's 100m Hurdles at the Diamond League Final on Thursday in Zurich.

Amusan set a new personal best and new African Record of 12.42s, becoming the first Nigerian athlete ever to win a Diamond League Trophy since inception in 2010.

She ran the race of her life to win the race, erasing Glory Alozie's record of 12.44s set in 1998 in Brussels.

Holland’s Nadine Visser came second with 12.51s while Olympic 100-metre hurdles bronze medalist, Megan Tapper, finished third with 12.55s.

Amusan will pocket US$30,000 and a Diamond League trophy for hear feat. The success also earned her an automatic berth in next summer’s world championships in Eugene, Oregon.

The 24-year-old had a disappointing outing at the just concluded Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where she finished fourth at the 100 meters hurdles final. She won the Gold and Bronze medal at the 2018 Gold Coast competition in the 100 meters hurdles and the 4×100 meters relay, respectively.
