Three-time Nigeria Premier League champion, Rivers Hoopers shook off a slow start to annihilate Police Baton 88-52 in their second game of the Nigeria Premier Basketball League in Akure.
Rivers Hoopers struggled on the offense in the first quarter
and scored just 6 points against 9 points made by Police Baton who were a tough
nut to crack.
Three straight 3s from Benjamin Ikechukwu at the start of
the second quarter got Hoopers into their rhythm and they never looked back
from there on.
The KingsMen built a double-digit lead (23) at half time and
consolidated on it in the second half.
Five Hoopers players finished on double figures against
Police Baton. Benjamin Ikechukwu continued from where he left off on Thursday
as he scored a game high 17 points with five threes to go with it.
Buchi Nwaiwu contributed on both ends of the court as he
added 15 points, Ronald Alalibo added 13 same as Owen Oriakhi while Solomom
Ajegbeyi scored 10 points.
Rivers Hoopers outscored their opponent in the remaining
three quarters despite a late surge in the game.
The KingsMen knocked down 12 threes and missed 4 /13 from
the free throw line against Police.
Rivers Hoopers’ next game is against Lagos Raptors on
Saturday, September 11.
