Super Eagles midfielder Peter Etebo will be out of action for four to five months with a torn quad muscle, Watford have confirmed.
The on-loan midfielder picked up the injury at the end of the 1-1 draw with Newcastle last weekend.
With the development, the former Warri Wolves star will not be part of the Super Eagles squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON) in Cameroon in January.
Tom Cleverley was forced out of the game after suffering a suspected concussion, but he has since returned to training and will be available for selection again come Saturday.
The rest of the squad is available, including Kiko Femenia, who was also substituted during the game with Newcastle.
After that match Xisco Munoz
said the full back was being eased back into matches after a lengthy spell out
of the team.
