Eguavoen: Our goal was wrongly disallowed

By Taofeek Babalola

Sunshine Stars FC technical adviser, Austin Eguavoen has blamed the shock home loss on his team’s profligacy as he wondered why Sunshine Stars stoppage time goal was disallowed by the referee.

Sportinglens.blogspot.com reports that Kingsley Eduwo 15th minute strike earned Lobi Stars a 1-0 win over Sunshine Stars in a keenly contested week 20 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) clash on Sunday at the Ondo State Sports Complex Akure.

Sunshine Stars’ 94th-minute goal was disallowed by the AR2 who raised his flag for an infringement against Lobi Stars’ goalkeeper Odah Okemute after the center referee had already signalled for a goal.

After a due consultation with his assistant, the referee changed his mind and awarded free-kick to Lobi Stars. The game ended 1-0 in favour of the visitors.

"In today's (Sunday) game we failed to take our chances and the referee disallowed our goal for reason I don't know, I wonder why. The boys were not bad though for some moments the response was slow and it must be said Lobi defended very well too," Eguavoen said.

The former Eyimba coach who believed the result could have been different had his side seized the scoring opportunities created remained upbeat and aimed for a better result in the subsequent match.

"Results like this are part of football and we are not dwelling on it, looking forward to our next game and for sure we are aiming for a better result," Eguavoen assured.
