Wikki Tourists out of relegation zone

Coach Bala Nikyu started his reign as Wikki Tourists Technical Adviser with a resounding 3-0 victory over Abia Warriors in the matchday 20 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The Big Elephants were on fire as they raced to a 2-0 lead against Abia Warriors in the first half.

After series of missed chances, the coach-Nikyu-tutored side opened scoring in the 12th minute as Ahmed Usman rose pass Abia Warriors’ defenders to nod in a corner kick.

With the visitors’ lethargic approach to the game, the Wikki seized the momentum to increase the tally in the 25th minute when Chukwudi Samuel converted a spot kick awarded to the home side when Henry Ochuba mistakenly hit a Wikki Tourists attacker in the vital area.

The restart of the second half saw the visitors played with revamped vigour with Sunday Adetunji spear-heading their quest for elusive goal, but despite their determination, the resurgent Wikki Tourists nailed the visitors’ coffin in the 62nd minute when Kabiru Mohammed scored the third goal.

The results moved Wikki Tourists out of the relegation zone and now in 16th position with 24 points.
The win also showed that the changes made to the squad by the State Government during the mid-season had started yielding positive results.

The former board was dissolved and new management board headed by Auwalu Babajada was appointed.

The new technical crew was appointed while some new players were recruited during the mid season transfer window.
