Maikaba: New players need more games

By Taofeek Babalola

Akwa United Technical Adviser Abdu Maikaba has revealed to Sportinglens.blogspot.com that his new players need to play more matches to adapt with the team’s pattern of play before the commencement of the second stanza of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The Promise Keepers will face Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries (MFM) FC when the league resume next week in Lagos.

The former Wikki Tourists gaffer said their performances during training session will determine whether they will be available for selection for the game.

“We don’t have enough matches to play old and new players together for proper blending. So their chances of play will depend on their performances during our last training session. Even if we are going to use any one of them it has to be one or two. They will be coming in game after game until they get use to our pattern of play,” Maikaba told Sportinglens.blogspot.com.

The former Kano Pillars manager said his wards will give their best against MFM, insisting that the match will be different from their last encounter in Uyo.

“We are planning and I know they are planning for the game too. We defeated them in Uyo in the first round and I know they will want to take something out of this game too. But it is going to be a different game entirely. But two matches have never been the same. The approach to this game will be totally different from what happened in Uyo.”
