A new name
was on Sunday added to the winners of Nigeria’s oldest football competition,
Federation Cup (FA Cup) following the 5-4 penalty shoot-out victory of Ifeanyi Ubah over Nasarawa United at the
Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos. It was the
first ever cup final between both teams and they held on tenaciously to a
goalless score line in regulation time.
In the
resultant shoot-out, Seun Sogbeso, whose goal from the penalty spot steered
Nasarawa United to the final at the expense of two-time CAF Champions League
winners, Enyimba FC, saw his tame kick saved by FC Ifeanyi Ubah goalkeeper Uche
Okafor.
The feat is
the first-ever Federation Cup glory for the self-styled Anambra Warriors that
is bankrolled by business mogul, Chief Ifeanyi Ubah and they will now represent
Nigeria in next year’s CAF Confederation Cup alongside Wikki Tourists.
League
champions, Enugu Rangers and Rivers United will vie for honours in the
prestigious CAF Champions League.
