Ikeme out of Algeria clash

Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has been ruled out the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Desret Foxes of Algeria slated for Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.

Ikeme, who suffered a hip injury while on club duty with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English Championship against Blackburn Rovers, wrote to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Tuesday to inform the federation that he will not recover in time for the Algeria game.

The extent of the injury which forced Ikeme to be taken off at half time was initially sketchy but it has now been confirmed that he will be in goal for Nigeria come Nov 12.

In the absence of Ikeme, Rohr is left with the options of FC IfeanyiUbah’s Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Portugal based Dele Alampasu.

However, it is unclear if Rohr would extend a replacement invitation to either of South Africa based Daniel Akpeyi or Emmanuel Daniel of Enugu Rangers who had an impressive outing at the just concluded Rio Olympics.
