Abia Warriors break Kano Pillars winless jinx

Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia thrashed Kano Pillars 3-0 in the matchday 15 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) clash in Umuahia on Sunday to record their first league victory Sai Masu Gida.

The visitors were put under serious pressure by the best player in the league, Sunday Adetunji, Pillars utility player, Joel Djondang had no choice than to beat his own goalkeeper for the Warriors opening goal.

The goal seemed to be the tonic the former Champions needed to wake up from slumber as they ceaselessly searched for the equalizer but their efforts were rebuffed by the  Warriors defence marshalled by captain Mohammed Garba as well as Abiodun Adebayo and Chinedu Efugh.

With scores at 1-0 coming into the second half, Abia Warriors coach, Abdullahi Usman Biffo effected double substitution bringing in Ndifreke Effiong and Sherif Bashir in places of Obi Samson and  Kalu Nweke respectively and the result was instant as Bashir netted the  second goal less than two minutes after his entry.

As the game wore on, Adetunji made his presence felt as he outran his markers to score his sixth league goal of the season.

This is Abia Warriors first victory over  Kano Pillars in seven attempts and Biffo said it was his birthday gift.

While thanking God for the victory, Biffo commended his boys for their determination and promised that the intensity will be sustained.

Abia Warriors have now gone five matches unbeaten in the league and will next face MFM in Lagos on Wednesday.
