Mbakwe’s late strike earn 3SC draw in Gombe

By Taofeek Babalola

Substitute Nonso Mbakwe’s late minute equaliser against Gombe United in the match day 13 of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday evening ensured that Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) did not leave Pantami Stadium empty-handed.

All was going the way of the home team before Mbakwe connected a late free kick played by captain Seun Akinyemi from the right and found the left angle of goalkeeper Fabiyi to silence the vociferous crowd in the 92 minutes.

In form midfielder, Samuel Agba had put Gombe United ahead in the 30th minute after converting a spot kick when defender Samuel Olabisi handled the ball in the box.

Before then, the homers had failed to make use of their chances towards the tail end of the game with goalkeeper Adamu Abubakar and his defence line being up to the task to curtail the anxious Savannah Scorpions’ strikers.

However, succour came in the added time with a foul on another substitute, Fawaz Otun which produced free kick that resulted in the equaliser

By this result, 3SC got another draw to make five draws in the last five games since week eight at Katsina United.
