Odey's 15th minute well taken spot kick gave Mountain of Fire and Miracles
Ministries (MFM) Football Club a 1-0 win triumph over Remo Stars FC in Sunday's
Matchday 12 fixture of the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL)
decided at the Agege Stadium, Lagos.
The exciting
Southwest derby lived up to expectations as both teams entertained their avid
fans with great display of the round lethal game.
Both teams
began the entertaining match on a remarkable note stringing passes together
with excellent performances. The host won the first free kick of the game after
three minutes of exchange in a promising position following an infringement on
Sikiru Olatunbosun but Remo's goalkeeper David Walbe pulled a save from Onuwa
Chukwuka well taken free kick.
The 14th
minute of the proceeding witnessed a defining moment for MFM FC, as the league
top scorer Stephen Odey was brought down by Remo Stars goalkeeper when he was
about to latch onto to a pass from Olatunbosun. The referee signaled a spot
kick and Odey converted it well as he increased his goals to seven from eight
league matches.
Few minutes
after the opener, Ekene Awazie and Oche Salefu of Remo Stars combined well to
get the equalizer but MFM FC's goalkeeper Ospino Egbe denied the visitors with
a brilliant save.
The Sky Blue
Stars goalkeeper, Walbe David sustained an injury in the 40th minute of the
encounter and he was replaced with Chizoba Ndukwe. The Lagos-based team had a
chance to double the lead two minutes before the end of the first half as
Olatunbosun took advantage of Chizoba's error but his effort hit the cross bar.
The second
45 minutes of the match saw both sides creating chances but they failed to make
their effort count in front of goal. Fatai Osho's men won the first free kick
of the second half in a vital position but Oche's effort went wide. Odey had a
glorious chance to increase his side's lead in the 71st minute but Chizoba
pulled another sublime save to keep the scoreline intact.
MFM FC
claimed the maximum points as they extended their fine home form with their
fifth home victory.
Coach Fidelis
Ilechukwu and his wards still occupy the 4th position on NPFL table with 19
points from 10 league matches.
