Abia
Warriors Football Club of Umuahia started the second phase of the Nigeria
Professional Football League (NPFL) on a good note with a hard- fought 1-1 draw
against Sunshine Stars at the Akure Township Stadium.
After a
goalless first half, Rasaq Adegbite netted the opener for the home team in the
58th minute following a mix- up in the Warriors' defence but former Sunshine
Stars defender, Emmanuel Olowo swept in the equaliser 19 minutes later to
infuriate his former employers.
One goal
down, Abia Warriors Manager, Kennedy Boboye increased his attacking power by
introducing Obinna Eric Nwimo and Chisom Chikatara while still leaving Michael
Olaha on the pitch and the ploy paid off
as the Warriors tormented their opponents ceaselessly and duely levelled
matters.
Coach
Solomon Ogbeide also brought in hit-man, Dele Olorundare and Seun Olulayo but
they failed to re-enact the heroics which saw Sunshine Stars win 2-1 in Umuahia
during the first leg.
Abia
Warriors had the opportunity to take all the available three points when they
caught their hosts on the counter late on but lacked the needed coordination in
front of goal to make hay.
In his
reaction, Boboye thanked God for the result insisting that his boys gave it
their all.
The Ondo
state-born tactician, who led Sunshine Stars to a 6th place finish in the top
flight last season, assured the Warriors supporters that there are better days ahead.
On his own,
Ogbeide lamented the dropped points at home adding that he was not satisfied
with some aspects of the officiating.
