MFM loss to Rivers United ‘a big shame’, says Ilechukwu

The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu has expressed disappointment over his side 4-1 defeat to Rivers United in a Match Day 22 of the Nigeria Professional Football League at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port-Harcourt on Sunday.

The young tactician appeared sober at the full time whistle describing the loss as ‘a big shame’.

Two goals from Guy Kuemian and a goal each from Bernard Ovoke and Yusuf Jaiyeola gave Rivers United all important three points at stake in the match. Austin Ogunye scored MFM only goal of the match.

“To lose like this today is a big shame but Rivers United is a very good team. They have very good players who can destroy any team. They were too skilful and too powerful for us today. This Rivers United team will go places,” Ilechukwu said after the game.

The Rivers United technical manager, Stanley Eguma also took the time to discuss the performance of his charges and the implications of the big win.

“The MFM side was very compact and capitalized on counter attacks. That was how they scored their only goal of the game. The turning point of the game was (Rivers United) scoring immediately after they scored (their opening goal). It was a good game and an important win for us,” he said.

Rivers United have now moved to second on the NPFL standings with 38 points from 21 matches, same as the leaders, Wikki Tourists who remain at the summit as a result of a healthier goals difference.

MFM FC drop to 8th place with 30 points from 20 matches.
