Hero Foundation to float ‘Gov Wike Legacy Cup 2016’

A team of distinguished individuals from the United States; the U.S. War Hero Foundation, on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner of Sport in Rivers State, Boma Iyaye in his office to intimate him of lofty plans for a football competition in the State.
Members of the U.S War Hero Foundation, a duly registered non-profit & non-governmental Organisation (NGO), based in Virginia State (USA) made known their plans during an unscheduled visit to the Commissioner, Honourable Iyaye in his office.

The War Hero Foundation unveiled plans for a new permanent technical and empowerment project which they intend to embark upon this year.

It has since been tagged "Gov. Nyesom Wike Legacy Project" to actualize "Gov. Nyesom Wike Legacy Football Cup 2016".

The competition will be sub divided into two cadres/categories; one for the U-18s (junior category) and the other for the U23s (senior category).

The team which was led by Dr. Dominic B. Saro-Laka, Pastor Greg LeMaster and the President Elder Jolly Ndaanee intimated the Commissioner of their desire to organise this exclusive tournaments to preach peace and unity amongst the youths of Rivers State and redirect their orientation towards self-actualization devoid of crime and anti-social vices.

In his response, Honourable Iyaye commended the august visitors for their laudable initiative.

He added that their visit exemplified some of the main drives of the Governor Wike-led administration vis-à-vis that (P.P.P).

“I have said this severally that the era when Government alone will shoulder all responsibilities as regards the sole running of sports in the state is long gone.


“Be rest assured that the Rivers State Government is ailing to partner the U.S War Hero initiative for the good of the game,” Honourable Iyaye said.
