Chelsea apologise as Mourinho-Carneiro case settled

Chelsea and Jose Mourinho have reached a settlement with the team's former doctor Eva Carneiro over claims she was constructively dismissed.

Chelsea said in a statement that it "regretted the circumstances" which led to Dr Carneiro leaving the club and "apologises unreservedly to her and her family for the distress caused".

It added that Mourinho thanked Dr Carneiro for the "excellent and dedicated support" she provided and wished her a "successful career".

Documents submitted to the Employment Tribunal on behalf of Chelsea and Mourinho on Monday show that Dr Carneiro was "made an open offer of £1.2m to settle her claims".
