Kano Pillars basketball team are set to make
Nigeria proud in this year's West African basketball championship which is
going to be hosted by Togo. This was
disclosed by the head coach of the team Coach Sani Ahmad during the club warm
up training programme at Sani Abacha Stadium Kofar Mata, in Kano State.
Ahmad said all the players are very match ready
for the encounter which is going to commence on 22 of this month in Lome the
capital city of Togo where the basketball teams that become champions in their countries
leagues [West Africa] would spent ten days competing among themselves.
He explained that so far he has free injury players
in the team and assured that with support of Kano State Government the team
would become champion at the end of the tournament.
He then commended the Kano State Sports Commission
chairman Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima for his commitment in ensuring that the team
is in good shape and the fatherly advice he is giving them all the time.
The players and officials are expected to leave
the country on Friday to Togo for the championship.
It could be recalled that Kano Pillars basketball
team is the defending champion of West African championship which was played
last year in Benin Republic.
The team was
addressed on Wednesday by the Kano State Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje at
Government House Kano.
