Sportinglens.blogspot.com can report that work has commenced to relay new pitch at the Abubakar Tafawa
Balewa Stadium, Bauchi for next football season.
It is the
first time in eighteen years the pitch has been relayed- since it was used for
the hosting of the FIFA U17 World Cup, Nigeria ’99.
The Bauchi
State Government under the leadership of Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar
rip up ATBS turf in ensuring that Wikki Tourists play on a brand new surface
for the next league campaign.
The ATBS is
an artificial turf but the contractor handling the pitch, Reform Sports West
Africa, said it will be upgraded to meet international standard.
While
Speaking with Sportinglens.blogspot.com on behalf of the company, Arnold Williams promised
100 per cent good work at the stadium.
“It is ongoing project and we are ready to
provide one of the best pitches in the country at ATBS. Due to time constraint
I can’t be specific when the job will be completed but I know they will play
the league there next season. The league ended few months ago and I know it
will resume soon. What is important is to do a good job that will last longer,”
Williams said to Sportinglens.blogspot.com.
“A pitch
that will serve the purpose it was meant for. The work has started and we are
working very hard to finish work as soon as possible. I want to tell you that
99 percent of the materials we are using are imported and we have to put that
into consideration. We want to do a pitch that everybody including players,
technical crew, administrators as well as Government would be proud of.”
It is
understood that the same contractor handled Karkanda Stadium in Katsina and
Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan Oyo State.
Wikki
Tourists are currently using Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University pitch and
Federal Polytechnic Bauchi for their training session in preparation for new
season.
