Super Eagles defender Efe Ambrose has become a figure of fun at Celtic but Hoops fans are starting to think the defender is beyond a joke after another calamitous display against Barcelona in the International Champions Cup on Saturday at the Aviva stadium. The Nigerian international scored a comical own goal in Dublin and got nutmegged for the third in a 3-1 defeat and Parkhead punters are worried about more bombscare behaviour against Astana in the Champions League showdown on Wednesday. In separate reactions during a phone-in programme, Sports Hotline, Celtic fans warned the club's manager Brendan Rodgers not to consider Nigerian centre back for selection again.
A fan, Pat Thompson, Parkhead , said: “We were all laughing at Efe Ambrose on Saturday but it will be no joke if he plays on Wednesday. Enough is enough.”
Dunky Robertson, London, said: “Efe Ambrose is not an accident waiting to happen. He’s an accident that’s already happened. No offence to the guy but his time is up at Celtic. We cannot afford to carry this guy for any longer.”
Jimmy Murray, Edinburgh, said: “If Rodgers has been a lifelong Celtic fan then how does he not know Ambrose is the worst player ever to wear a Celtic jersey? His performance against Barcelona was beyond belief. Play Ambrose on Wednesday and Celtic are out of the Champions league for the third year in a row. I will never set foot in Parkhead again as long as Ambrose is on the books.”
Carl McArdle, Lanarkshire, said: “Why do Celtic not just print Calamity on the back of Effe Ambroses shirt? If Rodgers, Kennedy, Lawwell and Desmond cannot see the lack of football ability that this man possesses then they should head for Specsavers.”
Michael Sheerin, Liverpool, said: “This International Champions Cup is a waste of time. The Barcelona game would have been good to see but to charge 80 euros for a ticket was taking the mickey.”
