The management
of Gombe United has expressed dismay over the way and manner the central
referee handled the match day seven of the Nigeria National League (NNL) fixture
against Dreams Intl FC at the Aper Aku, Stadium. The club
Team Manager, Ibrahim Kwairanga claimed that the referee awarded two dubious
penalties against his team while he sent two of their players out unfairly.
He also decried
the unruly behavior of the home fans as he alleged that they assaulted their supporters
and reserve players.
“It is
saddening to see such poor officiating when we are witnessing improvements in
our domestic leagues. At 68 minutes, the match was goalless until the central
referee decided to send two of our players out of the field (two red cards) and
awarded two unwarranted penalties to the home side, and to add salt on the
wound, their supporters descended on our reserve players and supporters beating
and wounding one Mal. Aminu on the head.
“We are appealing to the NNL to as a matter of
urgency investigate the incident and take proper action before things get out
of hands and to serve as a deterrent to other clubs,” Kwairanga said.
