FC Ifeanyi
Ubah players and supporters who were both in jubilant mood after a well
deserved point secured from a scoreless draw against Heartland in Match Day 28
of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) had their joyous moment of celebration short lived as they were
massively attacked by irate Heartland FC fans immediately after the game at the
Dan Anyiam Stadium.
The Anambra
Warriors made one change to the starting 11 that defeated El Kanemi last Sunday
by a goal to nil with Adah Stephen coming in for Gata Ismaila.
The
persistence and resilient display exhibited by the Anambra Warriors which have
seen them gone 8 games unbeaten in all competitions paid off once more as they
stifled the efforts and antics of the home team during the duration of the game
to get a valuable and priceless point away from home.
The frenetic
contest however had a sad end as the player's bus and that of the supporter's
club were attacked with both players and supporters suffering varying degree of
injuries occasioned by the bodily harm.
The incident
happened as the buses were on their way out of the Dan Anyiam Stadium. The
reckless and senseless fans of Heartland chased the buses despite managing to
leave the stadium unscathed, they caught up with the buses where they were
stuck in a heavy traffic as they perform their dastardly act, hauling stones of
various sizes and other missiles at the buses which shattered the glasses and
destroyed other components of the conveying bus.
The players
and other club officials who were in the vehicle had to alight and took to
their heels on seeing the extent of the mayhem being unleashed as they all
scampered for safety in different directions available.
It was
surely dooms day as security officials at the stadium where the initial attack
started did little or nothing to provide some form of protection for the FC
Ifeanyi Ubah contingent despite the presence of the No. 2 Citizen of the State
(The Deputy Governor) and the Commissioner for Sports.
FC Ifeanyi
Ubah players and officials are still reeling in rude shock in the aftermath of
the encounter.
