Players of Prime
FC of Osogbo are looking to create another upset against Warri Wolves in the Federation Cup Round of
16 on Wednesday. Prime FC and
Warri Wolves will meet at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi with the winner facing
either FC Ifeanyi Ubah or Katsina United in the quarter finals.
The Omoluabi
Giants defeated former Premier League champions, Kano Pillars 2-1 in the Round
of 32 while the Seasiders walked-over Jigawa Golden Stars to progress to the
next stage.
The two
clubs are no strangers to each other in the Federation Cup competition, having
previously met in the Round of 32 clash in 2014. Prime FC won the encounter in
the last meeting, triumphing 4-3 on penalties after the full time ended
goalless.
The two
clubs will be keen to enjoy cup success, while the Omoluabi Giants have not lifted
the most famous trophy, Wolves will wish to win the tournament to compensate their
fans.
Both Prime
and Wolves go into the tie with dismal performances as Prime lost their last
league game 2-0 away against Abia Comets, while Wolves drew 1-1 at home against
Wikki Tourists on Sunday.
Wolves have
a second chance to overcome the Nigeria National League opposition, while Prime
will look to cause yet another upset for the Seasiders, but the pressure is on
Wolves as the team try to keep themselves in the hunt for silverware.
The players’
morale will have been boosted ahead of the Wednesday contest as they sound
positive of progressing to the next stage of the competition.
“I think it
is a big game and every player wants to play in this kind of match. But we have
to be focused and ready because Warri Wolves are a great team,” Adeyemi
Adeyeye, told PRIME FC MEDIA.
Prime
inspiring safe hand, Ayobami Ojo said; “I know how important the Federation Cup
is for our fans. We realise how important it is for us as players and for our
fans to win the match. We remain resolute to get back to winning ways and
progress to the next stage of the tournament.”
“We are
prepared for this game and I am confident we will get a very good game against
Warri Wolves. We will come out strong to ensure that we win and advance to the
next stage of the competition," the former Heartland goalkeeper said.
Wolves
danger man Sikiru Alimi, despite recent fitness concerns, is expected to
feature on Wednesday and the Oshogbo-born striker is sure to present a threat
to Prime’s defence.
“We’re going
to make sure we make up for our disappointing league performance against Prime.
It's going to be a tough game going by the fact that I will be playing against
my home town team, we won't underrate them because they have tradition in the tournament,"
Alimi said in a chat.
