The parents
of one of England's most talented young footballers, Dele Alli have spoken of their heartbreak
after claiming they have not seen him in two years. Alli's
mother Denise and father Kehinde say they 'just want their son back' and say
they have not seen him since he moved from Milton Keynes Dons to Tottenham Hotspur
in early 2015.
Alli's
career is on the rise, with the £60,000-per-week midfielder breaking into the
England team and winning the PFA Young Player of the Year Award in 2016.
But his
mother said she is 'miserable' at not having a part in his life, while his
multimillionaire entrepreneur father said he even paid for a stadium tour at
Tottenham's White Hart Lane in his efforts to see him.
The couple
split up when Alli was a child but have come back together to try to
re-establish their relationship with their son.
Denise, 53,
who has two other children, told the Sunday Mirror: 'He (Alli) refuses to speak
to me and it feels like he's been taken from us. But I won't give up on getting
him back.'
She added
she was 'not interested' in his money and would 'love him if he worked at
McDonald's'.
Alli, born
in 1996, grew up in Milton Keynes after his mother and father met a year before
in a nightclub.
The couple
married but broke up three years later, although they maintained a 'close' relationship
for the sake of the children.
Mr Alli, 47,
moved back to Lagos, Nigeria, in 2004, and Dele – who is a prince of the Yoruba
tribe – went with him.
He also
moved with his father when he went to Texas, US, for work, and is even
understood to have been best man at Mr Alli's wedding when he re-married in
2006, before returning to the UK aged 11 to live with his mother and focus on
his football.
The star has
taken to wearing 'Dele' on his shirt after previously saying he feels 'no
connection' to his surname.
He is
understood to have changed his phone number and moved house since leaving
Milton Keynes for Tottenham.
His mother
told the Mirror she approached him after a game only for the footballer to say
he was 'busy'.
She added:
'It has been said that I was suffering from alcoholism and I gave him up
because I couldn't look after him, but that is a lie. I wanted to give him the
best chance of achieving his dream, but he was still my son and I was there for
him whenever he needed me.'
Mr Alli
added: 'I know some people will think we just want him for his money, but it
couldn't be further from the truth. I'm very wealthy in my own right and I
don't need a penny from Dele. I just want to be here for him and for him to
know that I love him.'
The Mirror
reported Alli had no comment on his parents' claims.
